There is a scene where the characters discuss their favorite Christmas movies
Line of Events
Helen begins a passionate relationship with a man who doesn’t know her secret identity. Caught in the crosshairs when her boyfriend falls victim to the dangerous London underworld, Helen’s employer calls in Sam to protect her.. None of them mention Love, a very popular Christmas movie, of course.
This is predictable because Keira Knightly stars in both
Spies, London, Keira, Ben, quality cinematography, beautiful soundtrack – what could go wrong? And I already know this is my favorite genre and will ignore whatever flaws come up. But when Episode 1’s dialogue was slow, some moments dragged on, and scenes with Quinten-esque dialogue floored me, I tried to console myself.
I was wrong
Surely they just develop the characters and set a unique tone. As the episodes dragged on, I realized that this series just doesn’t deliver. Not just discord, but with some characters I actually cared about.
I’m so sorry for what could have been
I honestly don’t know how the magic happens, but Slow Horses, The Americans, Le Bureau, the Diplomat and The Old Man – despite all their flaws – I was deeply drawn in with the stories and characters. Add to that the lack of basic information and the many omissions, and the annoying:curiosity ratio was too high to be enjoyable. Yes, all the basic spy elements are here in Black Doves, but somehow there was no salt in the recipe and by E03 I was already speeding up the run.
