Michael Schur was inspired to create "A Man On the Inside" after watching the Chilean documentary "The Mole Agent"
Line of Events
Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home.
Remake of El agente topo (2020)
He says, "The Mole Agent" is a powerful documentary because it makes people feel incredibly similar regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reduced way as, “I have to call my mom.”" In our show, we tried to do a similar thing with the tone: Basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of wanting to call moms?.
This show certainly hits that mark
I believe that many works of fiction naturally aim to make you think along the lines of "It was an honor to be a part of these fictional characters".
Props to all departments involved
Even those who come for the mystery, which gave it less of a focus, should be charmed by the humanity that shows not only in the writing, but in the performances of all the cast members.
